Kimi Räikkönen has stressed that he is only interested in moving to a potentially title-winning team next year as opposed to moulding a smaller outfit around him. The Finn has just two races remaining with Ferrari. with no contract publically announced with any other squad for 2010.
With many insiders tipping the 2007 Champion for a return to McLaren alongside last year's winner Lewis Hamilton, Kimi states that no deal is signed with any team. "I have no contract for next year," he said in Japan. "I am looking at different options and we will see what happens in the future. I don't know when we are going to say anything, or if we have anything to say at all…
"There are many different choices that you want but, first of all, you want a contract which you are happy with and a car with which you have a chance of winning the championship; there's no point in moving to a smaller team and just driving there - I get nothing from that."
Having made his World Rally debut in Finland earlier in the season, Räikkönen also dismissed speculation that this could be a full-time option. "I have no interest to drive around in just tenth place," he continued. "I would rather stay at home and do something else.
If I want to race, I want to have a car that is ready to win the (F1) championship next year. I want to have at least given myself the chance and then it is up to me and the team to see what happens; but you have to have a car that gives you a chance to win."
