Despite being under contract to Renault for 2009, Spain’s Fernando Alonso, the 2005 and 2006 world champion F1 driver, was spotted in Maranello making successive visits to team Ferrari HQ over a fortnight in November, spending two days checking out the factory and meeting engineers as well as Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo.

The 28 year-old will get his first crack at Ferrari’s new 2010 F1 race car in February, however, Brazilian Filipe Massa is still recovering from the head injury he sustained in a crash at the last Hungarian GP.

Ferrari’s preparations, claims di Montezemolo, are on track to put them back in the F1 reckoning in 2010.
